Sophie and Her Kitten

Sample story

Sophie wakes up to something soft and tickly brushing against her nose. She opens one eye and sees two big green eyes staring right back at her. "Whiskers!" she giggles, and the little orange cat lets out a tiny, rumbling purr that vibrates against her chin. Sophie jumps out of bed, her bare feet slapping against the cool wooden floor. "Today is going to be the BEST day ever, Whiskers! We're going to play dress-up, and build a blanket fort, and have a tea party, and—" But Whiskers isn't following her. He sits by his empty food bowl, tapping it with one soft paw. Tap. Tap. Tap. His tail swishes slowly across the kitchen tiles. Sophie stops. She looks at Whiskers. She looks at the empty bowl. Her tummy rumbles too, and suddenly she understands. "Oh! You're hungry, aren't you, Whiskers?" She carefully scoops his favorite crunchy kibble into the bowl — it sounds like tiny raindrops falling. Whiskers rubs his warm, fuzzy head against her ankle, and Sophie feels something glow inside her chest, something even better than playing dress-up...
