Rose at the Farm

Sample story

The big red gate swings open, and Rose takes her very first step onto the farm. The morning air smells like fresh hay and warm sunshine. Everywhere she looks, something new is waiting to be discovered. "Moo!" calls a large brown cow from behind a wooden fence. Rose's eyes grow wide. She reaches out her tiny hand, and the cow's nose feels soft and warm, like velvet. Rose giggles and takes a step closer. A fluffy chicken struts across the path, its feathers bright orange and gold. "Bawk bawk bawk!" it clucks, and three little chicks come tumbling after it. Rose crouches down low, her knees in the cool grass, watching them peck at tiny seeds on the ground. Then she hears it — a deep, rumbling sound that makes the ground shake just a little. Rose turns around. A big green tractor rolls slowly around the corner of the barn, its wheels crunching on the gravel. The farmer waves from up high and calls out, "Rose! Want to come see the horses?" Rose grabs the fence post, pulls herself up on her tiptoes, and peeks over the edge...
