Lily's Fun Farm Day

The big red gate swings open, and Lily takes one small step onto the dusty farm path. Her heart thumps like a little drum inside her chest. Everything smells different here — like warm hay and fresh earth and something sweet she can't quite name. A rooster crows from somewhere behind the barn, and Lily jumps, then giggles. Sunshine pours down like golden honey over the rolling green fields, and a soft breeze tickles her nose. She wiggles her fingers nervously at her sides. "Come on," says the friendly farmer, kneeling down with a warm smile. "Someone's been waiting to meet you." He opens the gate to a small pen, and there, wobbling on tiny legs, stands a baby lamb with the fluffiest white wool Lily has ever seen. It lets out a tiny "baaaa" and takes three wobbly steps right toward her. Lily holds her breath. She stretches out her hand, slowly, carefully — and feels the softest thing in the whole wide world press against her palm. The lamb nuzzles closer, and a giggle bubbles up from somewhere deep inside her belly...
