He pulls his hand back, heart hammering — but the light doesn't stop. It spreads through the cracks like liquid sunlight, and the old garden wall splits open with a sound like a giant exhaling. Wind rushes through, carrying the smell of rain and something sweeter — like honey and lightning mixed together. Noah leans forward and sees it: a kingdom floating in an endless sky. Towers of pale stone drift among the clouds, connected by bridges that crumble even as he watches. Chunks of marble tumble silently into the blue nothing below. A narrow path of ancient tiles stretches from the portal's edge to the nearest floating island. Some tiles are missing. Others wobble dangerously. Noah swallows hard. Behind him, his backyard sits quiet and ordinary. Ahead, a piece of bridge snaps free and spirals downward into the mist. He takes a breath. He steps forward.
